Help me test Klid before it opens to everyone.
Klid turns a MIDI file of a piano piece into a cinematic video, right in your browser, with nothing to install. It already works on the machines I own. I need to know how it behaves on yours.
Open this on a computer, in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. Phones and tablets aren't ready yet. You seem to be inside an app's built-in browser: tap the ⋯ or share menu and choose “Open in browser”, or copy this page's link into your computer's browser.
What I'm asking
- Open Klid and drop in a MIDI file, ideally a piece you play. If you have a recording of yourself playing it, bring that too.
- Export a short part (about 30 seconds), then a whole piece. Keep the tab open while it renders.
- Play the video in the player you normally use. Does it have sound? Does the music stay in time with the keys until the end?
- Tell me how it went with the Feedback button, top right of Klid, even when everything worked.
About 20 minutes. The full guide has the details.
What you need
- A computer, Windows or Mac, with Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. Phones are not ready yet.
- Speakers or headphones connected and switched on. Klid records the piano through your computer's sound, so it cannot export without them.
- A MIDI file of a piece.
The machines I'm short of
Exports behave differently on different hardware, so a spread matters more than a number. I'm especially looking for an older Intel Mac, a Windows laptop with Intel graphics, and anyone on Safari.
What I most want to hear
- Whether a long export finishes on your computer, with sound, and how long it takes.
- Whether the sound stays in time with the keys.
- Anything that confused you, or that you looked for and could not find.
If an export stops early or comes out without sound, Klid shows a message and offers to send me a problem report. Please say yes. A report holds your browser and graphics chip, the export's settings and how long each step took. It never holds your music or anything about you.
